Alluring Altea Beaches and Festivals

Altea may be just a small town in Alicante that is about 50 kilometers away at Alicante’s northwest but it has quite some allurements. It is also only 10 kilometers off Benidorm which makes it a popular day trip visit.

Altea is a typical small Costa Blanca town that comprises a small population of about 20,000 inhabitants. It lies between the sea and the mountain to offer a beautiful landscape that is not found in the skyscrapers of Benidorm.

Altea Beaches

Altea is blessed with a surrounding landscape that offers the best of climate; its coastal area comprises small beaches and coves along its 8 kilometers stretch. Altea has an interesting La Roda which is the main beach near to River Algar. It was awarded the coveted Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and sufficient modern amenities. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and bars with a wide range of water sport facilities.

The beaches of Altea make an ideal spot to cool off in the hot summer. In its south is Cabo Blanco beach which stretches to Albir beach. Here, quaint local restaurants line the way for some tantalizing local dishes.

Landscapes

Other beautiful sites include the El Mascarat which is situated below the majestic Sierra de Bernia Mountain. The cool fresh air is sufficient to attract the locals and tourists for a tranquil holiday away from the maddening city crowd.

There is also the peaceful Cap Negret which offers crystal clear waters with black volcanic rocks. This landscape gives a most unique environment to those looking for adventure with nature. The La Ola is located just in front of La Isleta Island which is a small rocky island that offers plenty of tiny unadulterated coves which gives much pleasure to the eco-friendly individuals.

Altea Festivals

Another exciting draw of Altea is its many festivals which are vibrantly celebrated. As with most Valencian Community towns, festivals are celebrated in grand style. The month of January sees the high honors attributed to the Cristo de la Salud while spring brings on the Holy Week festival. There are plenty of pilgrimage festivals dedicated to many of the region’s saints such as San Juan Bautista, Santa Ana, the Virgin of Carmen, Saint James and San Roc.

The grand festival of Moros y Critianos comes in September with great pomp and festivity; this includes fireworks, traditional music, colorful costumes and hundreds of local and foreign participants, location villa en espagne .

Besides sacral festivals, there are musical festivals; some are international musical competitions which attract foreign artists to display their amazing talent with the local ones.
